Overview
During the last few years, Echelon has spent significant time behind the scenes rebuilding our platform. You've seen the changes with new class filtering, new searching, and improved workout stability. We have an exciting update for you with the all-new 'Me' Tab.
"Me" puts you in the driver's seat, replacing your 'Progress' Tab. You will now have more control and visibility over your workouts. Our redesigned milestone badge system will extend far beyond the previous milestones for our highest achievers. We have also introduced 'Streaks' so you can get rewarded for consecutive days you work out across any of your Echelon equipment.
The new system is much improved, allowing us to show you detailed workout information and more granular, second-by-second data. Depending on your device and app update frequency, access to this data will be available for workouts dating back to the summer of 2023.
All-new screens will break down your output, cadence, incline, resistance, stroke rate, heart rate, and time spent in each heart rate zone. Summary data is specific to each piece of equipment, and you can also see what badges you have earned as a reward for that workout. We’ve also worked hard to update and improve all-time stats summaries, so if you want to know how far you've traveled during your Echelon journey, that information will be available at your fingertips.
Totals Data
For this update, we have recalculated members’ workout totals. For some members, this resulted in no noticeable change; other members may notice a variation in their workout totals.
For long-time users, we have recovered ride data dating back to the beginning of Echelon and migrated this data into the new system. After extensive data analysis of various causes and effects, we will cover total variations in user workouts in detail.
Old System
Each time a member took a workout, the old system simply added one to that member's previous workout count. If a count became out of sync due to an internet outage or during a system maintenance period, there would be no way to correct it moving forward. For example, during the beta period of the new system, we asked users to track their rides and found an instance of a single ride counting 50+ times for one user due to an error in the system.
New System
The new system calculates workouts using the actual workout data as it exists. This means we reference each completed workout by a user to make sure totals are accurate at all times. We also process data much differently now to provide you with all the information we know you want about your workouts, like resistance over time and easy-to-see heart rate data.
Gained Workouts
Most users are gaining workouts due to the degradation of the previous tallying system, which sometimes zeroed out users' history or lost sync at some point in the many years it was in use. While the vast majority of users are gaining anywhere from a handful to roughly 30 workouts, this has resulted in hundreds of recovered workouts in some cases. Below are some real user examples where NC denotes "No Change" -
User A
Type | Old Totals | New Totals | Difference |
Rides | 465 | 1072 | +607 |
FitPass | 25 | 25 | NC |
Freestyle | 87 | 223 | +136 |
Net Difference | +743 |
User B
Type | Old Totals | New Totals | Difference |
Rides | 391 | 586 | +195 |
Rows | 6 | 39 | +33 |
Runs | 187 | 380 | +193 |
FitPass | 18 | 18 | NC |
Freestyle | 10 | 15 | +5 |
Net Difference | +426 |
Change in Fitpass to Modality or Modality to Fitpass
A bug in the previous system caused a mixup between FitPass classes and typical modality classes (bike/row/run, etc) for a period of time. You may notice that several of your workouts moved from one category to another—these typically net a change of 0 total workouts or a minimal difference. Below are real user examples -
User A
Type | Old Totals | New Totals | Difference |
Rides | 581 | 770 | +189 |
FitPass | 189 | 0 | NC |
Net Difference | 0 |
User B
Type | Old Totals | New Totals | Difference |
Rides | 256 | 364 | +108 |
FitPass | 100 | 2 | -98 |
Freestyle | 4 | 4 | NC |
Net Difference | +10 |
Lost Workouts -
We want users to retain all rides; after all, each workout requires considerable effort. Unfortunately, the old system led to some inaccuracies in the other direction, where users were credited for rides that may not exist, or rides were double-counted. Less than a dozen users are losing more than 100, less than 30 total users are losing more than 50, and less than 200 total are losing more than 20. During our beta testing period, we discussed one-on-one with users to find abnormalities and decrease these as best as possible. We often found the cause of these abnormalities to either be rides from 2020-2022 counting multiple times in the old system or the old system counting rides with no associated data as complete. Here are some examples -
User A
Type | Old Totals | New Totals | Difference |
Rides | 658 | 642 | -16 |
Rows | 54 | 52 | -2 |
Runs | 290 | 289 | -1 |
FitPass | 447 | 451 | +4 |
Freestyle | 24 | 24 | NC |
Net Difference | -15 |
User B
Type | Old Totals | New Totals | Difference |
Rides | 1354 | 1175 | -179 |
FitPass | 556 | 725 | +159 |
Freestyle | 1 | 1 | NC |
Net Difference | -20 |
